Understanding Tokens
What is a Token?
Tokens are pieces of words. Common words = 1 token. Longer/rare words may be 2-4 tokens. "Photography" = 2 tokens, "cat" = 1 token.

77 token limit per prompt. Uses subword tokenization. Punctuation counts as tokens. Parentheses for emphasis add tokens.
T5 Tokenizer (Flux)
256 token limit. Better at understanding natural language. More efficient tokenization for common phrases.
DALL-E 3
Character-based limit (~400 chars for best results). ChatGPT may rewrite your prompt. Natural language works best.
Tips for Staying Under the Limit
- Remove filler words ("very", "really", "extremely")
- Use commas instead of "and" between items
- Avoid redundant terms ("highly detailed, intricate details")
- Put most important terms first (they won't be truncated)
- Use prompt weighting sparingly - parentheses add tokens
